Drunk Man Reports Stolen Car That He Sold

A New Zealand man who got so drunk he forgot he had sold his car contacted police the next day to report it stolen.

The man decided to sell his car for NZ$800 (£440) so he could purchase more alcohol on his big night out, but could not remember his actions the next day.

He reported the car missing at Rotorua police station, but the case took an unusual turn when the man who purchased it on car-selling site CarJam came forward.

“Thankfully the man who bought the car checked the registration the next day on the CarJam website as he was worried it might be stolen,” Sergeant Dennis Murphy told the NZ Herald.

When the buyer checked the CarJam site he received an alert about the car possibly being stolen and decided to contact police.

“The man came into the station with the car to let us know what had happened.

We were able to get in touch with the original owner and told them to sort it out between them,” Sergeant Murphy added.

“The lesson here is don't drink and sell cars.”
