Baby With World's Biggest Head!

Seven-month-old Mrityunjay Das was shunned by neighbours who dubbed him "giant head" because of his huge alien-like skull. But luckily medics have been able to drain 3.7 litres of fluid from the tot's head, bringing the size down to 70cm after one-and-a-half months of treatment. Dr Dilip Parida, of the AIIMS hospital in India, said the "Roswell" baby had 5.5litres of fluid inside his skull when he was admitted with hydrocephalus in November.

Medics used external ventricular drainage to reduce the amount of liquid, and say the baby has responded well to treatment. Dr Parida said: "Since the cranial bones are not fused and floating, now the real challenge is to find a way to adjust the cranial bones. "We have applied bandages around the skull and planning to do cranoplasty at a later stage, if required. "The baby was absolutely bed-ridden earlier, now he can take turns. "We are happy with the developments and the parents are also happy to see the improvements."
He is not the first child to suffer from the condition, after Roona Begum made headlines when her head swelled up to 94cm in 2011. According to medical records, she previously had the largest head in the world. Mrityunjay's parents Kamalesh and Kavita Das said they didn't know what to do as their baby's head continued to grow.
